Lamb meat has always been a fan favorite at RodeoHouston; here’s how your child can try

Brave little cowboys and shepherdesses try to mount the big sheep and cling to it with all their might as it runs.

HOUSTON. One of the most popular events at RodeoHouston every night is the mutton haul.

The crowd cheers for little cowboys and cowboys brave enough to try. Their reactions are priceless as they cling to the big sheep and cling to it with all their might as it runs across the muddy floor of the NRG stadium.

Some kids like it, others don’t.

Whoever lasts the longest each night will receive a buckle.

Last night’s winner was Liliana Kazaka from Konro. Her sheep was very fast, but she still managed to hold on tight!

Betting 5-year-old Will Elliott competed Wednesday night.

“You wrap your legs around the sheep and then hold on tight,” Will told us.

The Elliotts are no strangers to riding. Will’s 8-year-old sister, Addison, skated two years ago.

“When the road is so bumpy, it’s fun to ride,” she said.

Their parents also enjoyed watching the children.

“Being part of the rodeo tradition, coming to the rodeo as a kid and now coming with the whole family is pretty fun,” Father Winston Elliott said.

Thursday night’s winner is Brodie West from Missouri City!

In 2022, KHOU 11 meteorologist Cheetah Kraft’s son, Les, made mom and dad proud when he rode one of those vicious rams.

You must register early to enroll your child in the NRG rodeo night event and registration is closed this year.

The good news is that The Junction near the carnival also has lamb and you don’t have to register in advance.

  • A trip for one child costs $15.
  • Participants must be 5 or 6 years old as of February 28, 2023.
  • Participants must not exceed 55 pounds.
  • Shows run every hour from 11:00 to 19:00 daily.
