Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell to return on Nickelodeon’s Good Burger 2

Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are preparing a sequel to the 90s cult feature film “Good Burger”.

Greenlit by Nickelodeon Studios and Paramount+, Good Burger 2 will follow Dexter Reed (Keenan Thompson) and first cashier Ed (Kel Mitchell) reuniting in the present day at a fast food restaurant.

“Dexter Reed is out of luck after another invention of his failed,” reads the official description. “Ed welcomes Dex back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him back his old job. With a new team working at Good Burger, Dex devises a plan to get back on his feet, but unfortunately puts Good Burger’s fate at risk again.”

The film was written by executive producers Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert (All That, Good Burger) and directed by Phil Traill (Middle, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Lonely Drunk Woman). James III (“Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan”, “All That”) is also the film’s screenwriter.

Nickelodeon and Awesomeness Live-Action co-directors Shauna Phelan and Zach Olin will oversee production for Nickelodeon Studios, while Brittany Cope will be Nickelodeon’s executive in charge of production.

The Good Burger is such a beloved film that fans have cherished for years,” Phelan and Olin said in a statement. “Filled with comedy, cameos and plenty of Easter eggs from the original, Good Burger 2 will bring nostalgia lovers and a new generation of viewers together for another wild and fun Good Burger adventure.”

The film is set to begin production in May and is slated to premiere later this year exclusively at Paramount+.

The feature film The Good Burger, based on an original sketch first shown on the 1994 TV series All That, was released worldwide by Paramount Pictures in 1997.

Mitchell played Ed in the comedy series Seasons 1 to 5, All That, and returned for the show’s revival in 2019 with Ed working at Good Burger for 20 years as a trainee manager.

“I can’t believe it’s been just over 25 years since Good Burger started great customer service!” This is stated in a statement by Thompson. “Being a part of something that so many generations of people have loved so much has made me so proud, and now being back where it all started working on a sequel is surreal! I love performing with my brother Kel and can’t wait to show the fans what these characters have been up to since we last saw them.”

“Ed is one of those timeless characters who has brought so much joy and laughter to the fans and it’s such a wonderful blessing to continue doing so after so many years,” Mitchell added. “It’s great to be back and continue the stories of Dex, Ed and Good Burger for both the people who grew up watching and their kids.”

Thompson is represented by UTA and managed by Michael Goldman. Mitchell is represented by UTA and managed by Levity Live’s Alex Goodman.
