Police are investigating after a man’s body was found in a small wooded area in Kansas City.

First responders arrived at the 1000 block of East 1st Street after 1:00 p.m. on Saturday to help the victim, whose condition was unknown at the time.

According to Donna Drake, spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department, officers found the man with injuries. The ambulance pronounced him dead at the scene.

The police are investigating the case like a murder. However, the cause of his injuries is unknown.

“We don’t know how this person died at this point, but it’s clearly not from natural causes,” Drake said.

Detectives will work with the medical examiner’s office to determine how the man was killed.

The victim lay in a makeshift tent Saturday afternoon, south of the Missouri River, near the railroad tracks. Several businesses are at the other end of the street.

Drake said detectives would be scouring the area, looking for footage and talking to people who might be working nearby.

Anyone with information about this case is strongly advised to call detectives at 816-234-5043 or contact the anonymous TIPS hotline at 816-474-8477. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for providing information leading to an arrest in the case.
