It’s a girl! Dallas Zoo Welcomes Newborn Warthog

A baby warthog named Tikiti was born at the Dallas Zoo.

A new addition to the warthog family was born to mum Vila and dad Toby on February 17, 2023.

According to the Dallas Zoo, shortly after Tikiti was born, she wasn’t as active as the animal care team members had hoped, so the team stepped in to ensure 24/7 care was provided to ensure the girl was getting everything she needed.

The Dallas Zoo said guests could soon see Tikiti in the habitat of savannah giants.

Guests can also see one of the habitat’s zoologists along with Tikiti, who are working to make sure the girl is comfortable in the large habitat, the Dallas Zoo said.

The Dallas Zoo said on Twitter that “Tikiti” means “watermelon” in Swahili, and that zoo team members think the name is appropriate because the warthog baby looked like a melon at birth.
