Independence Trailriders ride RodeoHouston to Houston

A total of ten rides will be heading to Memorial Park ahead of Saturday’s RodeoHouston Parade!

HOUSTON. On Saturday morning, a large number of trailrides were launched into Memorial Park and finally the downtown rodeo parade the following Saturday.

The Texas Independence Racers set off from La Marche early Saturday morning. The trip started in 1961 and since then Juan Ochoa has been going there every year.

“It’s a crowd,” he said. “I enjoy riding. I enjoy people. I have a lot of respect for the riders and they all respect me.”

“We saw horses on the trail, so we decided to come and have a look,” said La Marcha resident Brian Butler. “My nieces love these things.”

As you can tell, the spectacle was a big hit with those who stopped along the route to film or just wave at the riders.

This is one of 10 rides that take place the week before the Rodeo. While some are already heading to Houston, trips with fewer seats won’t start until Sunday or even Monday.

If you’re looking to get ready for the rodeo, check out our last year’s KHOU 11+ review. It covers all events leading up to the start of the rodeo, collegiate competitions, food and attractions. We have all.
