HPD: Grandmother shot dead, grandson unharmed when gunmen fired 20-30 shots at house in east

Houston police say the victim’s husband was also unharmed when at least four gunmen opened fire on a home in East Houston.

HOUSTON. A woman was critically injured when six gunmen opened fire on the east Houston home she shares with her husband and grandson early Wednesday morning.

The 58-year-old victim was wounded in the chest and was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Houston Police Department. Her husband and grandson were not injured.

Police said they found more than 20 shell casings inside and outside a house on San Angelo Street near Lathrop Street in the Denver Harbor area.

Investigators are not sure if the house was shelled.

“We understand this has been an ongoing issue in this area, shooting back and forth, whether it was a new issue or an old issue, we are not sure yet,” HPD Detective Damion Polit said.

Surveillance video shows between four and six gunmen approaching the house, he said.

The detective said they are questioning neighbors as possible witnesses, but some are reluctant to speak because they are frightened by the surge in violence.

Police said neighbors took cover when they heard gunshots around 5 am.

“They all seem to have either taken the floor or moved away from the windows,” Polite said.

It is unclear if anyone was injured in previous skirmishes.
