Associated Press story
HARRISON, NJ (AP) — Joe Willis made three saves to help Nashville draw against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night.
The tie marked the debut of Dante Vanzeira for Nashville (1-0-1). In the off-season, the Belgian footballer signed a record-breaking contract for the club. New York remains the only team that Nashville has faced more than once and never lost.
The Red Bulls (0-1-1) ended last season having lost five of their last nine home games, although they have only lost five of their previous 31 home games.
Nashville finished last season 2-0-3 on the road. Reigning league MVP Hani Mukhtar has yet to score a single goal. He made an assist in the opener. Mukhtar has scored at least one goal in 49 matches through 2020, eight more than any other player.
The Red Bulls (0–1–1) beat Nashville 8–5 with a 3–0 lead on shots on goal.
Both teams will play next on Saturday. The Red Bulls take on Minnesota United and the Nashville take on Montreal.
