SAINT PAUL, Minnesota (AP) — Andres Reyes scored in the snow early in the second half to help the New York Red Bulls to a cold 1-1 draw with Minnesota United on Saturday night.
John Tolkien provided the assist to equalize with Reyes in the 49th minute for New York (0-1-2).
Bongokule Hlongwane bet Minnesota United (1:0:1) and took the lead 1:0, scoring an unassisted goal in the 18th minute.
Minnesota United came into the game with two away wins against the Red Bulls. New York’s only previous trip to Minnesota came in United’s inaugural season in 2017, a 3-0 victory for the Red Bulls.
Reyes’ goal was the first of the season for the Red Bulls, who missed their first two games for the second time (2016). In the first two games, New York hit just 11 shots, the fewest in the league.
New York defeated Minnesota United 15–11 with a 4–2 lead on shots on goal.
Carlos Coronel made one save for the Red Bulls. Dane St. Clair finished with three saves for Minnesota United.
Both teams will play next on Saturday. The Red Bulls take on the Columbus and Minnesota United play the Colorado Rapids.
