Fourteen players from 10 states matched five numbers and won $1 million.
HOUSTON. A ticket holder in Houston wakes up with deeper pockets after matching five numbers in Friday night’s Mega Millions draw.
It took three months and 25 draws in a row, but a lucky ticket sold in Maine will bring home a $1.35 billion jackpot. This is the fourth largest lottery prize in US history.
The winning numbers on January 13 were 30-43-45-46-61 and the golden Mega Ball 14.
Meanwhile, 14 players from 10 states matched five numbers and won a cool million dollars.
According to the Texas Lottery, one of those 14 tickets was sold right here in H-Town! The lucky winner received a ticket from the Sunrise Super Stop on Richmond Avenue in the Upper Kirby area.
The sold ticket is just another chain of Texans getting richer. A Fort Stockton resident recently won the $1,000,000 top prize in the Cash Blowout scratch game.
Just a few days earlier, a man in Rockdale, east of Austin, had won $1 million playing a $1,000,000 crossword puzzle. Earlier this week, someone in Fort Worth also won one of four $1 million prizes by playing the $1,000,000 Diamond Riches Lottery.
Friday’s lucky draw also marked the seventh time that the top prize was won on Friday the 13th, a superstitiously considered unlucky date.
To qualify for the full $1.35 billion, the winner would have to receive the money in the form of an annuity with annual payments over 29 years. Most jackpot recipients prefer the smaller but faster cash option, which is valued at $724.6 million for the Friday night draw.
The next top prize draw on Tuesday will drop to around $20 million, with a cash option of $10.7 million.
