Homeless man stabs Santa Monica caretaker at Palisades Park

A homeless man stabbed to death an SM keeper downtown at Palisades Park on Wednesday morning at 8:15 AM PST, March 15, 23. The victim is reported to be in a stable condition. He was taken to the Ronald Reagan Medical Center at UCLA, the closest trauma hospital to Santa Monica.

SMPD posted the following on their Instagram account on 03/16/23:

The Santa Monica Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID), in conjunction with the Special Operations Division, has identified and arrested a suspect involved in the attack that took place yesterday morning.

On March 15, 2023, at approximately 8:15 a.m., patrol officers responded to an emergency call from an ambassador downtown who reported a subject in Palisades Park near a camera obscura. Officers arrived to find a Santa Monica employee who had been stabbed in the upper torso while trying to wake a man sleeping in the area. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. The Santa Monica Fire Department rushed the victim to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

CID detectives were able to identify a possible suspect this morning, and at approximately 11:00 a.m., officers located and arrested him. Custody for aggravated assault: Barna, Allen Cranford Date of birth: 06/10/1982.
