Highway 1 closed in Monterey County due to landslide repairs

State Highway 1 closed for the weekend between Monterey and San Luis Obispo due to severe slip on the roadway.

The closure takes effect at 10.6 miles north of the city of Gorda.

Caltrans hopes to reopen the highway on Sunday or Monday.

At Mile Market 39.5, south of the Torre Canyon Bridge, the forecourt is still blocking the roadway.

Road crews are working with a long reach excavator and plan to begin scaling on Saturday.
