Hidden paradise above Del Mar beach!

Those who visit Dog Beach (also known as North Beach) in Del Mar may be interested in the wooden stairs. They climb the sandstone cliffs to the north. I climbed them the other day and discovered a hidden paradise!

A sign at the foot of the stairs indicates that the area above is the James J. Scripps Bluff Preserve. Those exploring the reserve are asked to stay on the paths and take out the trash.

During my adventure, I noticed that some of the lower steps are broken, so you have to be careful not to trip.

Here is a series of photographs that I took when I went up to the reserve. You can look south down to Dog Beach and east to Del Mar Racecourse and beyond.

As soon as I reached the top of the main trail, an amazing field of early March flowers and wide views of the Pacific Ocean awaited me.
