Heights reinstatement hearing postponed to March

The latest hearing on the lawsuit against the redevelopment of Del Mar Heights school has again continued. The San Diego Supreme Court extended the hearing date for the second lawsuit filed by Save the Field to February 3, which was then moved to February 9 and now to March 24.

The lawsuit disputes the City of San Diego’s approval of the redevelopment project, alleging that it does not comply with the California Environmental Quality Act.

Construction on a new school in Del Mar has been halted since May 2022, two months after the demolition of the old school campus. The Del Mar Union School District attorney tried to set an earlier court date to lift the injunction and move on with construction, but the schedule remains tight — March 24 was the earliest date available and after that, Judge Katherine Bacal said she was fully booked through August. .

Following recent storms, there have been reports of water running off the construction site into and accumulating in a nearby extension of the Torrey Pines Conservation Area. The district plans to apply for permission to carry out emergency repairs in the reserve. The overall redevelopment project includes a new storm sewer system – the District will repair two failed storm drains and has agreed to replant the area with landscaping materials that are free of invasive plant species.
