“He trusted them” | French Bulldog stolen from West Houston apartment robbery

Luca, a 5-year-old French bulldog, was abducted on February 27 while breaking into an apartment in the Rice military district.

HOUSTON. A Houston resident is desperate to get her family dog back after it was taken away during a robbery. The crime appears to have been caught on camera, and now there’s a big bounty on Luka’s safe return.

Maria Sganga stated on February 27 that surveillance video showed three men breaking into an apartment on Köhler Street, in the Rice military district. The video shows them entering and exiting several times over the course of an hour, carrying out items. At one point, Luca, a 5-year-old French bulldog, can be seen happily galloping along with them.

“Luka is so used to being around people and just welcoming them,” Sganga said. “So, I think he was excited at the thought of going for a walk. It was so incredibly sad to think that he trusted them.”

The Houston Police Department said it was investigating but did not confirm that the suspects are the men seen on camera, so KHOU 11 News decided to blur their faces.

Dog theft is not uncommon, especially French Bulldogs. The American Kennel Club calls this dog tossing. This is a fast way to make money. French Bulldogs are among the most stolen because they are easy to carry, expensive, and many people want to own one.

Sganga wants Luka back and offers a $2,500 reward – no questions asked.

“He is my grandson. I mean that’s what I call it. I don’t care what the situation is. I don’t judge. I just want Luca back,” Sganga said.
