HCSO: Man sentenced to 25 years in prison mistakenly released

The sheriff’s office says Marcelo Perez Campos has apparently been released due to a clerical error.

HOUSTON. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office needs your help to find an inmate they say was released due to an “obvious clerical error.”

Marcelo Perez Campos, 61, was sentenced to 25 years in prison on February 20 for aggravated assault on a family member and was due to be sent to a state prison.

But a week after the sentencing, Campos was released in error, according to the sheriff’s office. They didn’t give details on what the error might be.

Campos is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds. He is bald with brown eyes.

The sheriff’s office says they will conduct an internal investigation to see if there were any procedural violations.

If you meet Campos, you will be asked to call the Harris County Sheriff’s Office at 713-755-6055 or the Crime Squad at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
