ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING RULES ARE SUSPENDED TUESDAY, ALL SAINTS DAY
Happy Halloween! Drivers, take note: Monday will be the worst day of the year for child pedestrian casualties. In a wise response the city will close nearly 100 streets across the city from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Check NYC DOT’s website for locations.
Drive extra carefully and watch for kids darting out into the street.
The Village Halloween Parade starts at 7 p.m. from Canal St. and 6th Ave. Revelers will head up 6th to 15th St. Driving in SoHo and the West Village in the late afternoon and evening will be a horror, take the subway instead.
Other celebrations on Monday include the March to the Arch parade through Dumbo, starting at 4 p.m. at Washington St. and Water St., proceeding to Pearl St. at Water St. The Cobble Hill Halloween Parade commences at 4 p.m. in Cobble Hill Park; marchers will head down Congress to Henry, around to Warren St. and then back to the park. At 4:45 p.m., the Inwood Monster March kicks off from Isham Park, proceeding to Inwood Hill Park. Watch for impacts to Seaman Ave.
The Nets host the Pacers Monday at 7:30 p.m. and the Bulls on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Hawks take on the Knicks on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
The Rangers host the Flyers on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and the Bruins on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
A reminder: The Jets face the Patriots at MetLife at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Lincoln Tunnel and the George Washington Bridge will be hard hit post-game, from 4 – 6 p.m.
Dear Gridlock Sam,
I’m planning to attend a baby shower Marathon Sunday (Nov 6th) in Bethpage, Long Island. I’m leaving from Staten Island about 9:30 a.m. Will I have a problem getting off Staten Island? What’s an alternative route?
Yes, you will. But never fear… Gridlock Sam is here. I’m going to send you through New Jersey: take the Bayonne Bridge to Rt. 440 to I-78 (the NJ Turnpike extension) to the Holland Tunnel. Take the last tunnel exit to Canal St. to the Manhattan Bridge. Use the bridge’s upper level; it’s the roadway on the right. At the Brooklyn end, take the ramp to the Brooklyn Queens Expressway (BQE) and follow signs to the BQE eastbound which leads into the Long Island Expressway.
On your way home, avoid N.J.; the Jets game will clog the Hudson River crossings. I’d time your return so you can take the Verrazzano, which should reopen around 4 p.m.
