Garrett Regional Medical Center Receives Operations Leadership Award from Chartis Center for Rural Health

Garrett Regional Medical Center was recognized with the 2022 Performance Leadership Award for outstanding results. The Performance Leadership Award, compiled by the Chartis Center for Rural Health Awards, is given to the best performance quartile (e.g., 75th percentile or higher) among rural hospitals in terms of quality, results, and patient perceptions.

“This national recognition for Garrett Regional Medical Center is yet another reflection of the hard work and dedication of our incredible staff and the work they do every day,” said Mark Buko, President and CEO of GRMC and Potomac Valley Hospital. “Our commitment to excellence in patient care and safety is at the heart of everything we do. I am honored and proud to be part of such an amazing team that puts our patients first.”

Performance Leadership Awards are based on the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX, the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of the performance of rural hospitals. INDEX data is trusted and relied on by rural hospitals, health systems with a rural presence, hospital associations, and government rural health departments across the country to measure and monitor performance in several areas that affect hospital operations and funding.

“While the last two years have placed unprecedented pressure on the rural health care network, the dedication to community service that we are so used to seeing in rural hospitals across the country has not wavered,” said Michael Topchik, National Leader, Chartis Rural Health Center. . “Let’s pay tribute to the institutions that work tirelessly to provide access to high quality health care for their communities.”

GRMC became a clinical member of the WVU Health System in 2015. The transition to full health care member status effective July 1, 2022 has allowed GRMC to continue expanding specialty services available to the 46,000 people in GRMC’s service area, including parts of the eight counties of Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. GRMC currently provides oncology care, urology and nephrology, dermatology, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, and cardiac and vascular care, among other services.
