Elizabeth Rosema, executive director of Atrio Home Health, has been named a 2022 Future Leader by Home Health Care News.

To become a Future Leader, an individual is nominated by their peers. Rosema sat down with HHCN to talk about her passion for caregiving, the importance of building a strong team and the future challenges the industry faces.

What drew you to this industry?

Caring for people is part of who I am. Making someone smile makes my day. Home health is designed to provide the care and assistance that our community needs. It was a perfect fit.

What’s your biggest lesson learned since starting to work in this industry?

Surround yourself with the best possible team and empower them. An empowered team can overcome the largest obstacles.

If you could change one thing with an eye toward the future of home-based care, what would it be?

Elevate the industry of home health for those entering health care to choose the home-based model.

What do you foresee as being different about the home-based care industry looking ahead to 2023?

Each year comes with its own challenges. In 2023, we will continue to be challenged by diminished reimbursement, narrowing of margins, OASIS modifications and more regulation.

The motivation, passion and resiliency of the home care industry continue to be innovative. We will continue to see enhanced technology to address the surge in demand while dealing with continued caregiver shortages.

In a word, how would you describe the future of home-based care?

Savvy.

If you could give advice to yourself looking back to your first day in the industry, what would it be and why?

Home health care is a unique space in which providers work together to help each other succeed. Be an active player on the team.

It takes positivity, connection and consistency to face the barriers together.
