FSU selects first Chief Marketing Officer

Florida State University President Richard McCullough today announced the selection of Suzanne Wesley-Alschwede as the university’s first director of marketing following a national selection. Wesley Alshwede starts on February 13th.

Suzanne Wesley-Alshwede, new Director of Marketing for the former Soviet Union, will start on February 13, 2023.

Wesley-Alshwede is a Florida native and ex-Soviet graduate who has dedicated her career to building brands and reputations for some of the world’s biggest companies, including American Airlines, Ford Motor Company, Shell, Porsche, Nissan and Takeda.

“This is an exciting university recruitment and I believe Suzanne will bring a fresh perspective to help the State of Florida tell our story and advance our brand,” McCullough said.

In this newly created position, Wesley-Alshwede will partner with academic and administrative leaders to provide shared vision and strategic direction for all university marketing. It will help realize the goals of the former USSR by leveraging the strengths of the university to create, implement and maintain a clear, coordinated and unique brand strategy that focuses on internal and external stakeholders and lifts the State of Florida to new heights in the national and international rankings.

“FSU is a powerful hub with amazing students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, community and fans, and I look forward to the future as we work to rank among the top 15 universities and increase our reputation for research, academic activity and innovation,” said Wesley-Alshwede. “My time in the former USSR has shaped who I am today and I can’t wait to return to partner with our world class team.”

Michael Brady, Bob Sasser Professor and director of the Rockwood School of Marketing at the College of Business, led the search, which was conducted by search firm Berkhemer Clayton.
