FSU Recognizes First-Class Alumni as Academic Reputation Continues to Grow

Florida State University’s reputation as one of the nation’s top public universities has resulted in more than 71,000 students applying for a spot in the first class of 2027.

FSU, the No. 19 public university in the country, released its regular admission decisions on February 15 for those who applied before December 1, 2022. Florida residents who applied for early action received their decisions on December 15, 2022.

This year, the total number of applications for the first year is expected to rise, as potential students can apply until March 1, 2023.

The 2027 edition of the former Soviet Union reflects excellent geographic diversity, with 17,066 accepted students from all 50 states; Washington DC; Puerto Rico; and 46 countries of the world. Seventy-nine percent of admitted classes come from Florida’s 614 high schools, representing all 67 districts. Twenty-two percent of the accepted classes of the former USSR are the first in their family to go to college.

Students enrolled this year have also achieved academic success. Students admitted for Fall 2023 had an average GPA of 4.4 (4.3–4.6 in mid-50s), a cumulative ACT score of 31 (29–32 in mid-50s), and an overall SAT score of 1370 ( 1310-1430 in the middle of the 50th). Seventy-six percent of admitted students achieved all A and B grades in the rigorous academic program.

Eighty-eight percent of admitted students were in the top 10 percent of high school students. The top three areas of study for admitted students were business, life sciences, and engineering.

FSU expects to recruit 6,000-6,200 freshmen for summer/fall 2023.
