The ratings were published by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research, or BRIMR. The College of Nursing has risen from 43rd to 8th in the nation among all schools or hospitals with nursing programs and ranked 5th among public institutions.

The College of Nursing received more than $6.5 million in NIH funding during the federal fiscal year ended September 30, 2022 for research on a variety of projects including the brain science behind pain management and a new center to recruit young researchers specializing in chronic diseases. disease prevention or mental health.

“This ranking is a testament to the exponential and transformative growth currently taking place at the FSU College of Nursing, and we are just getting started,” said Jing Wang, Dean of the FSU College of Nursing. “We will continue to grow along this trajectory, attracting more NIH-funded projects and committed to generating new knowledge in nursing and healthcare.”

Since 2006, BRIMR, an independent non-profit organization, has published rankings of institutions, departments, and researchers based on the funding they receive from NIH. The most recent rankings are based on FY 2022 grants.

“The FSU College of Nursing has an incredible track record of educating nurses who work with patients across the country,” said research vice president Stacey Patterson. “Over the past few years, the college has also become a hub for transformative research that drives clinical care. This ranking is a testament to the highly qualified faculty that the college has attracted over the past few years and that the NIH trusts them to deliver high-impact research.”

This new BRIMR is the result of a significant expansion of the college’s research activities, including the launch of the Center for Brain Research and Symptom Management (BSSMC) as well as the new NIH Florida FIRST Health Science Brigade program.

BSSMC is led by Associate Dean for Research Hyohol “Brian” Ahn, an accomplished nurse scientist who has participated in several NIH-funded studies. The FIRST Health Science Brigade in Florida is the only $14.5 million nurse-led NIH FIRST award in the country and works to recruit young researchers who specialize in chronic disease prevention and management or mental health. The center was founded by Professor Frankie Wong and Associate Professor Eugenia Millender, who jointly led the work.

“The rapidly rising BRIMR ranking is a significant milestone and comes at a time of significant research growth at the FSU College of Nursing, which is becoming the leading research institution in the United States,” Ahn said. “For the first time, a public school of nursing in Florida has climbed into the top 10 in the nation and into the top 5 of any public school.”

The BRIMR ranking is in line with the general focus of the former USSR on expanding health-related research and education programs as it lays the foundation for the health care of the former USSR. FSU Health is a university-wide initiative to build a health care ecosystem across North Florida through existing partnerships with health care providers such as Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare and Mayo Clinic, as well as expanding health research programs that inform patient care.

College of Nursing newly recruited world-renowned research faculty members Lisa Hightow-Weidman and Katherine Mussig created together Institute for Digital Health and Innovation connect digital innovation and healthcare. Two digital health experts were recently awarded $72.7 million NIH grant to lead a network of HIV clinical trials in adolescents. This funding will be included in the 2023 BRIMR.

The former Soviet Union College of Nursing also recently introduced new research doctorate in nursing, which will begin in the fall of 2023.
