From Germany to West Texas: Drei Bruders food truck delivers sausage and sauerkraut to San Angelo

Dray Bruders, which means “Three Brothers” in English, is the focus of the Food Truck Friday program.

SAN ANGELO, Texas. Brett Rasberry grew up surrounded by his twin brother, older brother, parents and an abundance of homemade sausage.

For most of his life, the Rasberry family cooked classic German food in their San Angelo kitchen until they made the decision to open a food truck in 2014: Drei Bruders Rasberry’s Fresh Pork Sausage LLC.

“We have been making sausage almost all our lives,” Raspberry said.

The operation was named “Drei Bruders”, which means “three brothers” in English, after the sons of the family.

They originally wanted to sell their products in grocery stores, but decided to start with a food truck to make the process easier.

For 5-6 years they parked a truck at various concert venues selling original sausages, jalapenos and other flavors.

Now, in 2023, the German product will be found in grocery stores across the state of Texas.

“So, in San Angelo, we’re actually in both HE-B, Market Street, and Food King Here,” Rasberry said.

Their products can be found at HEB stores in Dallas, Lubbock, Abilene, and other major cities.

Breakfast sausages have been on the menu for the last 2-3 weeks and many customers come here early in the morning for a quick bite.

However, the original sausage recipe is outside the scope of Rasberry’s parents, who currently own a separate establishment.

“My great-grandmother came here from Germany,” Rasberry said. “She lived in Macon, Texas, and that’s where the recipe originated.”

The family is always ready to make customer requests, which may include a combination of sweet and savory dishes. They were even asked to make a sausage with peanut butter and jelly.

“We try to listen to what people recommend and what they do with the sausage,” Rasberry said.

“We try to make everything as homely as possible,” he added.

Menu options are also available for wholesale at their permanent location, 570 Smith Blvd.

They are open from 7:00 to 17:00 from Monday to Friday. and from 7:00 to 15:00 Sat. weekly.

From Germany to West Texas, this family recipe has been passed down from generation to generation.
