Frisco’s Nick Bolton to play in the Super Bowl

This, of course, is the country of cowboys.

But many fans will be rooting for the Chiefs this weekend, and not just because Patrick Mahomes has close ties to Texas.

Nick Bolton, linebacker for the Chiefs, grew up in Frisco and graduated from Lone Star High School in 2018.

“If you walk into our school building, you will see a lot of Nick Bolton signage and Kansas City Chiefs signage because everyone is so proud,” said Lone Star head coach Jeff Wrayburn. “From the moment he stepped onto campus, he has been our absolute leader. He set an example on and off the pitch.”

Wrayburn says Bolton started all four years of high school, led the team to a state title game and helped take Lone Star from 3A to 5A.

Bolton’s sister was diagnosed with cancer at a young age. Just as she overcame the battle, his mom was also diagnosed with cancer.

“He taught me how to handle adversity because going through some of the things he went through in his life and dealing with it like a grown man, as a young man showed us all here how to mind our own business and how to deal with adversity,” Rayburn said.

Bolton became an All-SEC linebacker at the University of Missouri.

He was selected 58th overall in the NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021.

This season, as the second player in the league, Bolton broke the Chiefs record for tackles in a single season.

“I remember watching his first game for the Kansas City Chiefs as a rookie and he had a green dot on his helmet that allowed him to communicate with his coaches and there is only one guy who can wear that and for a rookie it should be, it showed the trust his coaches had in him,” Rayburn said.

It’s the same trust and tenacity Rayburn says he remembers from Bolton’s time in The Lone Star.

As a fan of the Cowboys, he says he will wear a Nick Bolton T-shirt to the Super Bowl.

“We’ll be rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs with all our might because this is another opportunity to celebrate Nick’s victory,” Wrayburn said.

Ronald Jones, who attended McKinney North High School, is also a running back for the Chiefs.
