Freeland Man Drives 128 MPH With Toddler Unfastened

February 13 – DORRANCE TWP. — State police in Hazleton arrested Franklin René Cunningham, 22, on charges that he endangered a one-year-old boy while driving at double speed on Interstate 81 on Saturday, according to court records.

A state police trooper spotted Cunningham’s Nissan Altima driving at 128 mph in the 65 mph zone on the north lane around 4:55 p.m., court records say.

According to court records, Cunningham overtook other vehicles in the right-hand fast lane and the shoulder of the highway until he entered the stop zone, where he was arrested.

The state police said the one-year-old boy was sitting in a forward-facing child seat that was not securely fastened.

Cunningham was arraigned by District Judge Thomas Mulloy in Wilkes-Barre on charges of endangering the welfare of children, reckless driving, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, and several traffic and vehicle violations. He was incarcerated at the Lucerne County Correctional Facility due to lack of $25,000 bail.
