Fort Worth police car hit by 18-wheelers 3 times, officers fine

Two Fort Worth police officers narrowly escaped injury when one of their patrol SUVs was hit multiple times by three different 18-wheelers early Thursday morning.

At approximately 2 a.m., officers cleared an accident on Interstate 20 near Beltway 820 when one of the patrol cars was hit by an 18-wheeler overturned with a jackknife.

One of the officers was inside the SUV when it was hit, but was able to get out and was not seriously injured.

As the officer started walking toward the second officer, the second 18-wheeler crashed into his SUV.

The officers were working together to cross the icy highway to the grassy median when a third 18-wheeler slid across the ice and crashed into an SUV.

According to police, the second officer injured his ankle while walking on the icy surface, but he was not seriously injured.

“Despite the fact that both police officers were injured, they immediately returned to the highway and began checking people involved in numerous accidents,” the police said.

Dangerous conditions developed in the area due to ice and continued freezing rain throughout the night.
