Fire in riverbed calls fire brigade
The fire in the Santa Clara River bed near the intersection of Bouquet Canyon Road and Valencia Boulevard on Monday expanded to 100 by 100 feet before being contained, Los Angeles County Fire Dispatchers said.
Giovanni Sanchez, a fire department spokesman, said the call came in at 4:23 p.m. and firefighters arrived at the scene at 4:30 p.m. Sanchez said it started with a 50-foot by 50-foot spot fire, but an update provided by Jeric Heatson, a fire dispatcher, said it had doubled in size by 6:15 p.m.
By 6:30 p.m., firefighters had contained the fire, but still hadn’t put it out because of thick brush at the bottom of the river, Hizon said. He added that the threat to the buildings does not threaten and no one was hurt.
A riverbed fire triggers a fire department response that first appeared on the Santa Clarita Valley signal.
