Family of teen killed in brutal stabbing in Brooklyn believes he was harassed for helping girlfriend

The family of a teenager stabbed to death by a brutal mob in Brooklyn believes he was targeted after standing up for a girl the team was after.

“It’s hard, they took away the good and we’re not okay,” Nayhim Wright’s mother told the Daily News on Sunday. “It affected the school and the community.”

Nyheem, 17, was fatally shot Friday when a group of five teenagers chased him into the Rite Aid parking lot on Mermaid Avenue near 30th Street in Coney Island around 3:20 p.m., police said.

Nyheem Wright, 17, was fatally shot Friday when a group of five teenagers chased him into a Rite Aid parking lot and stabbed him in Coney Island.

The gang beat the teenager and stabbed him in the torso, police said.

He was taken to the Maimonides Medical Center in critical condition, where he died on Saturday afternoon, they added.

After his death, there were rumors that the group that killed Naihim were actually looking for a girl and another boy.

According to his cousin, when Nayhim stood up for the girl, he was at the center of the planned attack.

“He’s not the type to get in trouble, [he’s] quite shy,” said his cousin Miriam Wright. “I never saw him get angry or anything like that. I’m still trying to digest it.”

She told The News the family is still trying to figure out how such a quiet boy got caught up in such violence.

“It was just shocking because he was one of those kids in the house who played PlayStation or Xbox and didn’t really bother anyone,” Miriam Wright said. “We don’t even know why it happened.”

Police believe the murder was gang-related, police sources said.

Naihim was a student at K728 Liberation Diploma Plus High School, about a mile from where he was attacked.

“He was just about to graduate, and as far as school work, he was good at it.” Wright said. “He was always in school and never had problems”

He was described as a “joyful leader” by Nyhim’s principal, principal David Banks. tweeted Saturday.

“His mother just posted something like an award for him at school earlier in the year,” Wright said. “It’s crazy, he’s doing well in school.”

The police are still working on finding the mafia that killed Naihim.

In the teen’s apartment Sunday night, dozens of mourners shared umbrellas and shed tears as they tried to light votive candles in honor of the murdered boy.

“I need to know exactly what happened,” his devastated aunt said. “He comes from a good family. This situation caught him at the wrong time.”
