Family of seriously injured man hit by crazy U-Haul driver hope he recovers from coma

The first victim of a deranged Brooklyn U-Haul driver’s rampage remains comatose in the hospital as his devastated wife hopes for a medical miracle to save her badly injured husband.

Father of two, Mohammed Zakaria Salah Rakchi, 36, was hit by accused mad driver Veng Sor on Monday morning, and his wife, Najet Chenar, only learned of his life-threatening injuries after arriving at his bedside following a carnage on the streets of Brooklyn.

Najet Chenar, wife of Mohammed Zakaria Salah Rakchi, speaks Tuesday at Cochran law firm in Manhattan.

“Friends called me and said, ‘Your husband had an accident, but he looks good,'” recalls Chenar. “But when I went to the hospital, I saw him in a very critical condition.”

According to family lawyer Derek Sells, the victim was placed in a medically induced coma with two tubes in his lungs and various injuries from a massive head injury to broken ribs and broken legs.

“Instead of celebrating Valentine’s Day together, they now hope Mohammed survives,” Sells said.

Rakchi became the first of Sora’s nine targets during his insane 90-minute rampage through the streets and sidewalks of Brooklyn, resulting in one victim being killed. According to his wife, Rakchi ran errands in Bay Ridge after driving his 7-year-old daughter to school.

“My husband is a really good person, a good father,” Chenar said. “I’m really sorry about what happened to him. I do not know what else to say”.

Attorney Derek Sells holds up a photo of Mohammed Zachariah as Najet Chenar sits next to him in Manhattan on Tuesday.

Murder accused Wen Sor told police he saw an “invisible object” before killing one person and injuring eight other victims, police said.

Mohammed Zakaria Salah Rakchi is pictured with his family in an updated photo.

Sells said he was looking into the NYPD’s response to the incident, including a police car driving down the sidewalk while chasing a truck.

“We are going to look into their vehicle harassment policy to see if what they were doing was in line with their actual policy,” he said.
