EXCLUSIVE: San Francisco bombing victim Outer Sunset describes escaping from burning house while working for suspect Darron Price

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — This is the first time we hear from a woman who escaped a house fire explosion in San Francisco’s Outer Sunset last week. ABC7 news anchor Dion Lim sat down with her solely to hear her heartbreaking account of what happened on that fateful morning when her life was turned upside down.

Loneliness in this hospital room for Lisa, who asked to be called by her nickname, is not unlike what she feels in America right now. Most of her family, who are still in Thailand, do not even know what happened on the morning of Thursday, February 9th.

The video in the media player above is irrelevant to the current story. The ABC7 News Bay Area 24/7 streaming channel lets you watch the news throughout the day.

“I went downstairs to do laundry. I didn’t know what to do, I just ran out. Just a minute and then boom. I didn’t know what happened,” Lisa says from her hospital bed. She shows Lim her hands, bandaged along each finger and unable to move even to use the phone.

An immigrant from Thailand, Lisa has overcome many personal challenges that are too painful today to share with the public. But one of her greatest joys, she said, was working for Darren Price and taking care of his paralyzed wife for the past five years.

“They are such a wonderful family, I love this family, the kids are small and I love my employer,” says Lisa.

Investigators did not name the cause of the explosion, which leveled a house along 22nd Avenue and Noriega Street and rendered nearby houses uninhabitable. Two of the Price children were not at home at the time of the explosion, as was Darren Price. He was arrested and charged with drug manufacturing, child involvement, and manslaughter.

Lisa claims she had no idea how this could have happened.

“I want to tell the truth, and the truth is that he told me he works for a contractor. That’s all what I know. I didn’t want to disturb anyone.”

It is noteworthy that, despite the fact that she was on fire and received burns to her head, torso and arms, Lisa managed to escape and try to save Price’s wife, who was sitting in the living room and died during the explosion.

“When I ran out, I wanted to help her, but they took me to the hospital. It wasn’t until I asked the police if she survived that they found out she didn’t. I’m very, very sad. about it,” she says through tears.

As Lisa slowly recovers, a Thai community group created GoFundMe so she can rebuild her life. All her possessions and livelihood were gone. But her gratitude for the community she has called home for the past eight years remains strong.

“Thank you is not enough. It means so much to me that the community cares about people like me.”
