El Cajon Sinkhole closes residential roads for the weekend

A sinkhole formed in the El Cajon area on Saturday evening, causing the El Cajon police to close the area until Monday.

All vehicle traffic is closed from 740 Mundy Terrace to Wyatt Place in El Cajon until Monday, according to El Cajon Police. The agency urged everyone to stay away from the area.

With the help of an expert, NBC 7’s Dave Summers explains the forces of nature that help create sinkholes.

Police assured residents that they would still be able to walk to and from their homes.

El Cajon Police, El Cajon Public Works and Helix Water District responded to the incident.

The situation comes after another major sinkhole closed on State Route 78 near Oceanside until Monday.

Crews are still working on repairing this funnel after last week’s storm, with another coming up on Monday.
