DPS: Three killed, two injured in head-on collision east of Ballinger

RUNNELS COUNTY, Texas — Three people were killed in a head-on collision Thursday morning 9.69 miles east of Ballinger on Hwy 67. 

The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a preliminary crash report Friday detailing the crash.

According to the report, a car, driven by Benjamin Nathaniel Sapp, 24, of Crowley, was traveling east on Hwy 67. Sapp tried to pass another vehicle on a curve in the roadway  and struck a pickup truck, driven by H.O. Akin III, 51, of Comanche.

Sapp and one of his passengers, Jacob Alexander Gray, 25, of Lewisville, died at the scene. His other passenger, Lindsey Gale Perry-Gray, 22, was taken to Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo with incapacitating injuries.

Akin’s passenger, Sarah Evelyn Brown, 48, of Brownwood, also died at the scene. Akin was treated and released from Shannon. 

The crash is under DPS investigation.
