Dolphins are jumping near the bow of the whale watching ship!

This morning, a whale watching tour off the coast of San Diego intercepted an unusually large pod of 200-300 dolphins.

I stood at the prow of the flagship Marietta and marveled as the Pacific white-sided dolphins raced ahead of us, gliding comfortably on the water pushed forward by our ship.

A crew member aboard the Marietta explained that we were moving at 10 miles per hour. Dolphins can move four times faster!

Flocks of dolphins are often encountered while traveling across the ocean behind Cape Loma. Every time I watched whales, regardless of the time of year, we spotted them.

Cohesive pods move around using their echolocation ability to find schools of fish. Adult dolphins eat about 5% of their body weight every day!

We were lucky to be accompanied by such an incredibly huge pod.

From time to time, dolphins playfully jumped in front of our ship!
