Deputies: A driver died in a crash after a group of cars saw a street race down I-10 near Winnie.

The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office said one of its deputies found the car had swerved onto the side of the freeway.

CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas. The driver died on Saturday after a group of cars were seen street racing down East Highway towards Winnie, deputies said.

The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office said it began receiving calls around 2:30 p.m. about several vehicles speeding along the eastern lanes of the East Highway from Mont Belvier.

About 15 minutes later, the sheriff’s office reported that one of his deputies discovered that one of the cars had swerved onto the side of the freeway. There were reportedly several sports cars in the area, which left when the deputy arrived.

The department said that the deputy approached the car and found that the driver was dead. The identity of the driver has not been released.

“This is a reminder that street racing kills,” the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook.

MPs are asking anyone with information about the group of vehicles to call 409-267-2500.
