Dallas Zoo announces new baby elephant
A new addition to the Dallas Zoo has officially received a name, the zoo announced Friday.
The new baby elephant, born almost three weeks ago, is now called Okubili. Pronounced oh-coo-BEE-lee, the name comes from the Zulu language and means “two” or “duplicate”. The name was chosen because the baby elephant Okubili is the second calf after the mother Mlilo (pronounced ma-LI-lo) and is almost a copy of her.
Mom and Okubili are still socializing and getting to know the rest of the herd backstage, and the Dallas Zoo will let the public know when it’s ready for its public debut.
