Dallas reverend receives a ceremonial street sign
The City of Dallas honored the Rev. Dr. Walter Bookman, a longtime reverend in the city, by adding a plaque with his name over the top of the Dennison Street sign.
Signage will be installed on Dennison Street between Puget Street and Harston Street.
The inscriptions are installed to demonstrate the unity of the area.
His name will be displayed on the street around New Morning Star Baptist Church, the church he has served for over 40 years.
Residents of West Dallas and members of the New Morning Star Baptist Church witnessed the sign’s unveiling ceremony on Friday morning.
“The Reverend Bookman led with compassion, and his life’s work has brought about a profound change in his church community,” said Pro Tem Mayor Omar Narvaez.
The City of Dallas honored the legacy of Dr. Rev. Walter Bookman as the first African American in the City of Dallas to receive the award.
New Morning Star Baptist Church is located at 1932 Dennison St. Dallas, TX 75212.
