Cypress man who lost wife and child in Grand Parkway crash focuses on recovery

“I don’t know if I think it’s normal to ask: “Why did you take them?” David Zik said. “But I’m sure there’s a reason why somewhere.”

HOUSTON, Texas. The happy memories that David Tzik captured with his family last Valentine’s Day will be remembered forever.

“I really don’t know what I would do without them,” Tzik said. “Looking back at the videos, I’m so happy I saved them. I’m so happy that I can think about it despite the outcome.”

Zik’s younger son, Ezekiel. whom he described as a ball of joy, survived only to 9 months of age. He died Wednesday, along with Tsik’s wife, Lupe, in what the Harris County Sheriff’s Office believes was a chain reaction accident at Grand Parkway around 290.

Their Toyota 4Runner rolled over the guardrail, landed on the roof, and then rolled over to the ground again after colliding with another vehicle.

“I’m glad it was fast,” Tzik said. “I’m glad she didn’t have to suffer, and I know that even though she’s in the sky right now, I just know that she needed to take Ezekiel with her.” “.

Ezekiel’s older brother, Isaiah, was also in the car at the time of the accident. He was badly wounded.

Tsik spends every day with Isaiah at Herman Memorial Children’s Hospital. A blanket featuring Isaiah’s favorite Marvel character, Spider-Man, keeps him warm.

“Of course I want him to make a full recovery,” Tzik said. “But, you know, whatever God gives us, I’ll take it.”

Zik said he realized something was wrong on Wednesday when his wife’s location on the app stayed in the same place for too long and she didn’t return his calls.

Tsik and his family set up GoFundMe to help pay for funerals and medical expenses as an Army reservist tries to muster up the courage to deal with grief that hasn’t fully arrived yet.

This is something that will probably repeat itself when he is watching family videos on his phone.

“I don’t know if I think it’s okay to ask, ‘Why did you take them?’ Zik said. “But I’m sure there’s a reason why somewhere.”

Tsik said he was grateful to the hospital staff and the sheriff’s office staff.

The accident, which involved up to four vehicles, is under investigation, investigators said.
