Concho Valley PAWS Provides Update on Poisoned Dogs Found in San Angelo

Four dogs were found sick between February 20 and 24 at Riverbend Manor, and only one is still alive.

SAN ANGELO, Texas. In just four days, four sick dogs were found at the Riverbend estate in San Angelo.

Only one of these dogs is now alive.

On February 20, the first two dogs were found with unknown diseases on the Rhine Loop and the Danube Road.

Both Concho Valley PAWS and Animal Control were called, and the dogs were soon taken to Western Veterinary Hospital, where it was determined that they may have been exposed to poisons.

The next day, February 21, another dog with similar symptoms was found in Riverbend Estates, who was also taken to the vet.

Finally, a dachshund cross was also found on 24 February and is currently being researched in the hope that it will survive.

The remaining three dogs eventually died as a result of their illnesses, and ethylene glycol was found in each of them, although it is suspected that opioids were also involved.

Testing is currently under way at Texas A&M University to determine if the fentanyl could have been part of the poisoning.

Concho Valley PAWS encourages pet owners to be responsible when walking their pets outside and pay attention to what they eat.

Call the San Angelo Police Department at 325-657-4315 for any additional information.
