Colin Farrell jokes that being called an Oscar nominee is “not the most valuable thing I’ve heard about myself.”

LOS ANGELES — Met Colin Farrell on the red carpet at the 34th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival, where Farrell told George Pennacchio that working on Banshee of Inishereen was so enjoyable because it was a meeting of old friends. “There was shorthand, knowledge and trust in each other,” Farrell said. “It was that the group was back together, that was good.”

Farrell’s performance as Padraic Swilleabhain in this tragic Irish comedy gave Hollywood a broader picture of his talents. “I don’t feel like I’ve worked harder on this than I have on anything in the last 25 years, but every movie, every story requires different things from you. I’m in,” Farrell said.

In addition to winning the award for his performance in The Banshee of Inisherin, Farrell is also considered a trailblazer in the Best Actor race at the Oscars this year. At the 57th National Society of Film Critics held on January 7, The Banshee of Inisherina won two awards, including Best Actor for Colin Farrell and Best Supporting Actress for Kerry Condon. The San Francisco Film Critics Society awarded the film three awards: Best Picture, Best Actor (Colin Farrell) and Best Supporting Actress (Kerry Condon).

At the Palm Springs International Awards, Farrell was honored with the Desert Palm Achievement Award as an actor for his performance in The Banshee of Inisherin. “The reception was absolutely shocking, absolutely shocking. I’m not even kidding. No false modesty. I don’t look a gift horse in the mouth,” Farrell said. “I’m very grateful for that, I feel like I’m representing the entire cast and crew here.”

When asked how he feels about being a strong Oscar contender, Farrell jokes: “That’s not the worst thing I’ve heard about myself. I’ve read something over the years, so it’s all right.”

The Denver Film Critics Society nominated The Banshee of Inisherin for eight awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Martin McDonagh and Best Actor for Colin Farrell. The Banshee of Inisherin was nominated for nine Seattle Film Critics Society awards, including Best Picture, Best Director (Martin McDonagh) and Best Actor in a Leading Role (Colin Farrell).

The Oscar nominations will be announced on the morning of January 24th. You can live with her on the red carpet.
