California police chase today: Armed car theft suspect leads police on dangerous chase on California Route 91

CORONA, California. — An armed car theft suspect was taken into custody after law enforcement led a dangerous chase that took an unexpected turn when he fired a machine gun at the police.

The pursuit began on Friday around 2:23 p.m. in Chino, where police were answering calls from a reckless driver.

According to the Chino Police Department, officers then pursued the suspect, who later crashed into a car but refused to stop.

The unidentified suspect then drove into a Shell gas station at 1550 E. Ontario Street in Corona and stole a pickup truck as Corona police officers arrived, driving the entire chase.

An AIR7 HD was at the scene when the suspect stopped on Highway 91 shortly before Highway 55, pulled out what looked like an assault rifle, and fired at the officers.

The officers returned fire, but there were no reports of casualties.

During the chase, two more firefights broke out, in one of which the suspect’s windshield was riddled with bullet holes.

On several occasions, the suspect accelerated to 100 miles per hour, sometimes on surface streets.

At one point, the suspect came to a sudden stop at Woodruff Avenue and Allington Street in the Long Beach Lakewood neighborhood when he was blocked by a group of students who had just left the school.

AIR7 HD captured a long line of students crossing the street. The suspect waited for the students to cross the road and then sped off.

In the final chase scene, the suspect lost control after crashing into a car in Harbor City and crashing straight into a pole.

He then jumped out of a wrecked truck on the street and tried to steal another car, but was unsuccessful.

At least six law enforcement officers managed to apprehend the suspect and eventually take him into custody.

Another person was handcuffed, although his involvement in the incident is unknown.

This is an evolving story. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.
