Buffalo Bills’ Damar Hamlin to attend basketball game between Syracuse and Duke

Buffalo Bills guard Damar Hamlin will play in Syracuse’s upcoming basketball game against Duke University.

SU superfan Adam Weitzman announced late Monday that Hamlin would be his guest at Saturday, Feb. 18, a basketball game at Syracuse University’s JMA Wireless Dome. Weitsman and his guests are seated on the court, next to head coach Jim Boeheim and the bench.

“My final guest at the Dome on Feb. 18 in Syracuse against rival @dukembb will be my most special, personally,” Weitsman wrote on Instagram. “A huge inspiration to me and everyone else at #315 and around the world.”

Hamlin, 24, went into cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated on the field during a Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals last month. The game was canceled and he spent over a week in the hospital, enlisting the support of football fans across the country.

He appeared at the Super Bowl on Sunday, days after receiving the NFLPA’s Alan Page Community Award in Phoenix. The award is given to the player who does his best to perform community service; his toy fund received $100,000 from the NFL, adding to over $9 million raised in GoFundMe donations after its collapse.

“One of my favorite quotes is that being a blessing is a blessing,” Hamlin said. “With that said, I plan to never take this position for granted and always have an urgent approach to change the situation in the community where I come from, as well as in communities around the world.”

Weitsman, a local businessman who made his fortune in his scrap metal business, has hosted various celebrities at basketball games in Syracuse in recent years, including NFL stars Tom Brady, Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, Jalen Hurts, and Odell Beckham Jr. ; host of The Tonight Show Jimmy Fallon; former SNL star Pete Davidson; “Yellowstone” actor Cole Houser; former SU stars Carmelo Anthony and Dion Waiters; NBA stars Allen Iverson and Giannis Antetokounmpo; and rappers Fabolous and A Boogie wit Da Hoodie. In December, Wightsman was joined by some of Hamlin’s teammates, including Bills quarterback Josh Allen and wide receiver Stephon Diggs.
