Officials did not say exactly how many tickets were sold, but Ticketmaster’s website indicates that there are about 3,500 tickets left that were not purchased from verified resellers. This is Springsteen’s first concert at the former Carrier Dome in over 30 years, but upstate New York fans can see it too. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band at Albany’s MVP Arena on March 14 and at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo on March 23. The JMA Dome concert was added as part of Springsteen’s 2023 extended tour.

The Boss last played in the Syracuse area at the Vernon Downs in 2012, drawing over 19,000 fans to a live show backed by a 15-piece band. E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg most recently played at the 2022 New York State Fair with a Max Weinberg jukebox.

Springsteen’s past concerts include appearances at the War Memorial in 1973 and 1978, at the Landmark Theater in 1996, and at the Carrier Dome in 1985 and 1992. (In 1973, he was the opening act in Chicago and was erroneously identified as “Bris Christie” in a newspaper review.)

Syracuse University Stadium was officially renamed the JMA Wireless Dome last year, with changes that include a new roof, the addition of air conditioning, and a new focus on concerts. Paul McCartney and Elton John played at the Dome last year, and upcoming shows include the Red Hot Chili Peppers on April 14th and Motley Crue/Def Leppard on August 5th.

Springsteen is a musician from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, winner of 20 Grammy Awards, Oscars, a special Tony Award, and is inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He also received the 2009 Kennedy Center Honors and the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama.

Boss has released 21 studio albums throughout his career, including songs such as Born in the USA, Born to Run, Dancing in the Dark, Hungry Heart, Thunder Road, Tenth Avenue. “Glory Days”, “I’m on Fire” and “Streets of Philadelphia”. His latest release, 2022’s “Only the Strong Survive”, included covers of R&B and soul songs.

It faced criticism earlier this winter due to high ticket prices and Ticketmaster-Live Nation’s “dynamic pricing” model. Springsteen told Rolling Stone magazine that for years he aimed to sell below-market tickets, but recently changed his mind after 49 years of touring: “This time I told them, ‘Hey, we’re 73 years old. Guys there. I want to do what everyone else is doing, my peers.” So that’s what happened.”

Springsteen’s longtime fanzine Backstreets has reportedly shut down in protest of the price gouging, but Forbes reports that some patient fans were still able to buy tickets for $10 on reseller sites the day before the Houston concert earlier this month.

Live Nation did not respond to a request for comment on the cost of the Syracuse concert.
