Brooklyn woman accused of brutal murder of her father told police he was going to kick her out of the family home: DA

A Brooklyn woman accused of brutally murdering her father and stabbing her younger sister faced an ultimatum from her father to leave the family home in 30 days, and her relatives are seeking a restraining order against her, prosecutors said on Monday.

Nikki Secondino, 22, after years of family turmoil, admitted to hitting and stabbing her father with a hammer until he died. She also nearly killed her younger sister after being stabbed in their home in Bensonhurst on December 29, authorities said.

Nikki Secondino walks from the NYPD 62nd Precinct in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, NY on Thursday, December 29, 2022. Secondino is accused of killing her 61-year-old father and stabbing her younger sister.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said Monday that the last time she argued with her father, Carlo Secondino, 61, was over a laptop computer.

On Monday, the Brooklyn Supreme Court indicted Nikki Secondino on murder, attempted murder and other charges. If found guilty, she could face 50 years to life in prison.

Court documents show how Secondino tried to frame a pair of break-in robbers for the murder and gave police a hint of what drove her murderous rage.

“They took my fucking family. Two men burst into the kitchen. They exited through the kitchen window. They slaughtered my father and sister. They tied me up. They tried to rape me,” she told police about 40 minutes after the murder, according to court documents.

When the detectives questioned her again almost nine hours later, they learned new information about her family situation and concluded that her story was not true.

“My father told me that I have 30 days to get out of the house. They tried to get a restraining order against me. Then we went to bed,” she first told the detectives. “I woke up to go to the bathroom and [two] the men came [into my] house. One had a gun and he put it on [my] head and asked for information about the safe.

Under duress, she confessed to what she had done, according to court documents.

“I came out of the bedroom and saw that my father was sitting on the sofa and sleeping, and I hit him on the head with a hammer. I grabbed my favorite German steel knife and stabbed the hell out of it,” she told investigators, according to court documents.

“My sister came out and tried to stop me, and then I stabbed her in the back, head and stomach. I wanted them to die. If I saw a 911 caller, she would be next. I didn’t plan this. I didn’t need to. I don’t remember where I put the knife, but I’m sure you’ll find it.

The sister, 19-year-old Liana Secondino, was seriously injured and needed surgery.

Neighbors recalled the tumultuous relationship between Nikki Secondino and her father, and police responded to several reports of domestic violence at their 17th Avenue home. Prosecutors said he had expressed misgivings about her in the past.

Secondino is transgender, and her father’s social media posts indicate he was a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump. Trump repealed Obama-era guidelines allowing transgender students to use the toilets of their choice and instituted a policy that largely barred transgender people from serving in the military. President Biden lifted the military ban shortly after he was sworn in in 2021.

However, in a nearly two-hour interview posted on YouTube about her transition, Nikki Secondino said her father was supportive of her transition, and family friends said he paid for her gender reassignment surgery two years ago.

Judge Elizabeth Warin ordered Secondino to remain in custody without bail. She will return to court on April 5.

Attempts to contact her attorney for comment on Monday were unsuccessful.
