Brambila Salon Celebrates 20 Years in Santa Monica

For Mary Brambila, founder and owner of Brambila Salon on Ocean Avenue, hair and beauty have always been passions. However, when she first started working in the industry as an assistant, she didn’t find the type of positive, welcoming salon environment she was looking for, so she decided to open her own salon.

“I thought that in order to do it the way I wanted, I needed to open my own place,” she said.

Now, 20 years later, she has a team of dedicated stylists and an established and loyal oceanfront clientele.

“It means so much to be a first generation American girl whose parents immigrated here from Mexico with only a 5th grade education, to have a business and see our last name on Ocean Avenue. It’s a dream come true,” said Brambila. “In addition, the opportunity to provide work to a diverse group of like-minded people is the icing on the cake. And it’s all because we can make people feel beautiful.”

Morgan Yee, one of the salon’s stylists, said she thought Brambila had succeeded in creating the vibe she was looking for.

“She really wants him to be warm and inviting and attractive,” said stylist Morgan Yee. “It seems to me that Mary really wants our clients to come and make their visit feel like a little mini-vacation.”

“You could just come from work or from a screaming baby, whatever it is, when you walk in, we’re like, we’ll take care of you.”

Brumbila said she drew inspiration from hotels further down the street from the salon, where she often went for dinner after work during her early days in business.

“I really enjoyed the hotel experience when they said, ‘Welcome, how can we serve you?’ so I really learned a lot from the local hotels and really wanted to offer that to my clients,” she said.

She said she hopes to offer her clients an experience that will leave them feeling “satiated” and rejuvenated after the visit, which Yi says people really need, especially after the pandemic.

“People really miss the hairstyle for a lot of different reasons,” she said. “So we can give them more than just touching up their roots, this root touch-up can give them the confidence to go to work that day.”

Having opened the doors of the salon 20 years ago, Brambila became a mother of two and said the community she created at the salon helped her find a balance between business and family.

“I am so grateful that I have such a wonderful team of people who have supported me as I have supported them over the years.”

Salon Brambila offers a full range of hairdressing services, including haircuts, styling, coloring and extensions, as well as makeup and nail services. For more information visit:
