Bengals’ Tee Higgins got word that Bills’ Damar Hamlin is awake. Here’s how he reacted

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin opened his eyes on Wednesday night, almost two days after collapsing to the turf at Paycor Stadium. According to his doctors at UC Medical Center, his first question to his bedside nurse was asking if Buffalo had defeated the Cincinnati Bengals.

That story was relayed to Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins on Thursday. Higgins said it brought a smile to his face.

“I had a smile on my face when I heard that,” Higgins told the media via Bridget Condon of the NFL Network.

Higgins, like everyone involved in the game, was shaken up by what occurred on Monday Night Football. The Bengals receiver was the player Hamlin tackled before he collapsed.

On social media, some people were wrongfully blaming Higgins for the play.

Nina Hamlin, Damar’s mom, wanted to make sure Higgins knew that nothing that happened on Monday night was his fault. According to Higgins, Nina reached out to him on Thursday morning.

“Damar’s mom texted me this morning,” Higgins told the media. “She told me about everything and made me feel more at home. I really appreciate them. Just hearing from them. Them having my back as well.”

Bills quarterback Josh Allen echoed those sentiments when he met with the media on Thursday.

“I do want to say one more thing,” Allen told the media. “I haven’t reached out to Tee [Higgins]. I hope that he got some relief today. I saw some stuff on Twitter and people should not be attacking him whatsoever and I’m glad that Damar’s family came out and said that and hopefully he found some relief today. That’s a football play and I hope that he doesn’t hold that upon himself because there was nothing else he could have done in that situation.”

Between Damar’s remarkable improvement and the Hamlin family supporting him, Higgins acknowledged feeling much better than he had just days ago.

“I’m in a good place right now,” said Higgins.
