Baytown cop K-9 dies after being bitten by a venomous snake during exercise

BAYTOWN, Texas. Last week, a member of the Baytown Police Department died after being bitten by a venomous snake during an exercise.

Lenin was taken to the veterinarian, but they could not save him.

Lenin was the first dog to work with the Baytown police that could detect bombs and weapons. It was a 2 year old Malinois, a Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd mix.

In 2022, Lenin found 10 guns and several other clues during three searches for explosives and 17 searches for weapons.

During a nationwide competition in February, Lenin and his guide, Officer Kinzi, won the best sapper dog award, placed 2nd in the bomb fight and third in the bomb vehicle category.

“The Baytown Police Department mourns the loss of K9 Lenin. He was one of ours, just like any other officer in this agency is our own. For us, that means he was family and will be missed but never forgotten. Our hearts are heavy because of his partner, officer K9 Kinzie, who lost not only a partner, but also a true friend. Lenin of K9 has made a significant contribution to the security of Baytown in his short time with our department and he will be missed,” the Baytown police said. Chief John Stringer said.
