Average gas prices in Southern California rise for the 16th day in a row

The average price of a gallon of regular self-service gasoline in Los Angeles County rose on Friday for the 16th straight day and the 18th time in 19 days, rising 3.4 cents to $4.777, the highest since Dec. 6.

The average price has risen 21.9 cents over the past 19 days, including 1.9 cents on Thursday, according to data from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. This is 9.3 cents more than a week ago and 27.5 cents more than a month ago, but four tenths less than a year ago.

The median price has dropped $1.717 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5.

The median price in Orange County rose for the 14th time in 16 days, up 2.9 cents to $4.742, the highest since Dec. 3. Over the past 16 days, it rose by 24.9 cents, including 3.4 cents on Thursday.

The average price in Orange County is 9.5 cents higher than a week ago and 31.2 cents higher than a month ago, but 1.6 cents less than a year ago. It has fallen $1,717 since rising to a record $6,459 on October 5th.

“The Oil Price Information Service reports that the Phillips 66 Los Angeles refinery site in Wilmington reported unscheduled flaring last week and several other West Coast refineries experienced problems, while the California Energy Commission reported about a significant decline in gasoline stocks last week,” said Doug Shoop. , corporate communications manager for the Automobile Club of Southern California.

“At the same time last year in Southern California, gas prices were breaking records almost every day due to inflation and rising oil prices in the run-up to the Russian-Ukrainian war. Unfortunately, today’s average prices are very similar to last year’s at this time because Southern California average gas prices remained well above $4 a gallon even at the lowest point in 2022.”

The national average fell one-tenth of a cent to $3.421 after a four-tenths consecutive rise that followed a 17-day streak of declines totaling 9.6 cents. The average price is 1 cent less than a week ago and 10.1 cents less than a year ago, but 9.4 cents more than a month ago.

The national average has fallen $1,595 since rising to a record $5,016 on June 14.
