Austin PD Officer Anthony Martin to be honored, buried in Abilene Tuesday

The public is encouraged to safely line the funeral procession route at noon Tuesday to show their support for the former Abilene resident.

ABILENE, Texas — Senior Austin Police Officer Anthony “Tony” Martin, who died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash, will be remembered and honored Tuesday, Oct. 4, in Abilene.

Martin was killed in on State Highway 29 and RM 1869 in Liberty Hill Sept 23 when a vehicle traveling eastbound tried to turn left and struck the motorcycle. He died at the scene.

Before beginning his career with the Austin Police Department in 2006, Martin honorably served in the United States Air Force, where he was a member of the Abilene and Dyess community for many years.

He is survived by his parents, wife, three children and one granddaughter.

An internment, with military honors, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.

The public is encouraged to safely line the procession route at noon to show their support.

Here is the procession route:

  • Begin in the 1700 block of East South 11th Street near Expo Drrive (Expo Center of Taylor County)
  • Continue west on E South 11th Street towards South Judge Ely Boulevard
  • Turn right on South Judge Ely Boulevard and continue north
  • Turn left on East Ambler Avenue and continue west
  • Turn right on West Lake Road and continue north
  • Enter Texas State Veterans Cemetery at 7457 W. Lake Road.
