Audio reveals NY state trooper lied on who rammed who in chase crash that killed Monica Goods, 11: ‘He just f—ing rammed me’

A shocking audio recording obtained by the Daily News details a New York state trooper’s effort to manufacture a storyline that a driver he pulled over rammed him during a high-speed chase that ended in a crash that killed the motorist’s 11-year-old daughter.

The crash analysis done by the New York State Police showed that state trooper Christopher Baldner twice rammed the Dodge Voyager driven by Tristin Goods on Dec. 22, 2020, on I-87 near Kingston. But Baldner repeatedly claims in the recording that Goods rammed him.

“He just rammed me, Albany. He just f—ing rammed me,” Baldner says over his police radio that is picked up in the recording.

The 78-minute recording Baldner made on his cellphone as the chaotic events were unfolding was obtained by lawyers involved in litigation over Monica Good’s death and provided to the Daily News.

Monica Goods, 11, celebrates her 5th grade graduation.

Baldner, 39, was indicted on Oct. 27, 2021, on murder and manslaughter charges in a case brought by state Attorney General Letitia James’ office. James said at the time the investigation found that Baldner “used his car as a deadly weapon and killed a young girl.”

Baldner is currently awaiting trial on the criminal charges.

“This is audio of the truth and it will be explosive evidence at trial,” said Sanford Rubenstein, a lawyer who represents Monica’s mother Michelle Surrency in a civil case against Baldner and the state police.

The recording reveals Goods demanded Baldner contact a supervisor but Baldner ignores him and then pepper sprays him.

“What jumped out at me was the fact the officer is discharging the pepper spray when there was no reason to do so,,” said lawyer Cory Dalmata, who also represents Surrency. “And then he’s trying to create the narrative that Tristin rammed him.”

The tape begins when Baldner and Goods are arguing over the car stop. Goods refuses to provide his license and registration though he has a commercial driver’s license and Baldner demands he get out of the car.

“Go f— myself? Ok, you’re under arrest,” Baldner says.

Goods responds, “Show me a law where you can arrest me for a traffic violation. Get your f—ing supervisor.”

Seconds later, Baldner pepper sprays Goods and the interior of the car where Monica, Goods’ other daughter Tristina, 12, and Goods’ wife, April, are riding.

“I tried to pepper spray and he grabbed my pepper spray and took off, Albany,” Baldner tells a dispatcher over the radio.

Then sounds of a crash and screeching is heard on the audio.

“He rammed me again, Albany, 93 North, 93 North,” Baldner says into his radio.

After the crash, Baldner got out of his car and screamed, “Get your f—ing hands up or I’ll f—ing shoot you motherf—er. Don’t f—ing move or I’ll f—ing shoot you, you son of a b—h.”

Goods begs Baldner to let him get out of the van to check on his daughters but Baldner refuses.

“Don’t you f—ing move, motherf—er,” Baldner says.

“Please help me, my baby’s dying man,” Goods pleads. “Please. These my girls, I love them man.’

“You f—ing hit me with the f—ing car,” Baldner says.

“I didn’t hit you,” Goods replies. “I swear to God.”

“You f—ing hit me motherf—er,” Baldner shoots back. “That’s what happens when you f—ing hit my car.”

“My kids are dying,” Goods says.

At that point, Monica had been ejected from the van and was underneath it but neither man appeared to realized that yet.

“There’s two kids,” Baldner shouts. “That’s your own damn f—ing fault.”

“Please let me out, please officer,” Goods continues to plead. “I swear I won’t do nothing. I promise you. Can you let me out so I can help my kids man?”

“You can’t get out,” Baldner replies. “You’re f—ing stuck.”

Baldner asked Goods if he had any weapons, which he did not, and then cuffed him.

“You sprayed me and I got scared,” Goods says.

This comment confirms what Goods told the Daily News about the incident in June 2021 – that Baldner sprayed the interior of the van and Goods was in fear for his life when he took off.

“I sprayed you because you don’t f—ing listen,” Baldner says. “You have no respect.”

“You tried to kill me,” Goods says.

“I didn’t try to kill you. You tried to kill me,” Baldner says.

As he realizes that Monica is dead, Tristin Goods unleashes his anger on Baldner. “She died a horrible death because of you all,” Goods screams.

“F—ing killing people for no reason … You son of a b—h. You going to die in hell. You are going to rot in f—ing hell because of this.”

Later in the recording, Baldner repeats his account to an investigator and other cops who have arrived on the scene. He claims Goods tried to grab him.

“So that’s when I pepper sprayed him. He grabbed my pepper spray and took off. He was all over the f—ing road,” Baldner tells another officer.

“He f—ing ran into me,” Baldner later claims. “He lost control, I lost control and this is where he f—ing ended up.”

The News has previously reported that the official crash reports showed that Baldner rammed Goods’ vehicle twice from behind at speeds prosecutor have established at 135 mph.

Tristin Goods’ lawyer Joseph O’Connor believes Baldner was using the recording to prepare a false story. “It is so raw listening to Tristin” on the recording, O’Connor said. “He (Baldner) took the life of a little girl and he had no care about it.”
