HOUSTON. Houston Astros star Kyle Tucker lost an arbitration hearing in favor of the organization on Thursday, but his salary will still be significantly increased for the 2023 season.

The All-Star outfielder will earn $5 million, not the $7.5 million he asked for.

The $2.5 million gap between Tucker and the Astros equaled Beau Bichette’s gap with the Blue Jays and was the widest among 33 players who traded salaries with their teams last month. Tucker’s case was heard on Wednesday by John Stout, Fredric Horowitz and Jules Bloch, who stuck to their decision until the Bichette agreement was finalized.

Tucker, 26, hit .257 with 30 homers, a career-best 107 RBIs, stole 25 bases and won the Glove Glove last year after batting .294 with 30 homers and 92 RBIs in 2021. He had a salary of $764,200 last year. right to arbitration for the first time.

Although he lost his arbitration hearings, this offseason has been eventful for the star outfielder. In December, Tucker announced on Instagram that he was now engaged to his now fiancée Samantha Scott.

The offer came immediately after the Astros’ World Series victory over Philadelphia in November.

Earlier in December, the World Series champion was also selected to the All-MLB Second Team along with RHP Ryan Pressley. 2B teammates José Altuve, DH Jordan Alvarez and LHP Framber Valdes were selected to the first team along with former teammate Justin Verlander.
