62-year-old man shot to death by Bronx roommate was celebrating winning the lottery before being killed (EXCLUSIVE)

The 62-year-old man shot to death by his roommate in the Bronx was celebrating a $300 lottery win shortly before he was killed, Daily News has learned.

Juan Laura was shot in the back of the head during an altercation in his basement on W. 169th Street near Plympton Avenue in Highbridge around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

The police found the 51-year-old roommate of the victim, Angelo Miranda, with a weapon near the building and took him into custody.

Just hours before he was shot, Laura cashed in a $300 winning lottery ticket at a local bodega and celebrated the modest win, devastated friends said.

Laura hung out every day in the wine cellar, drinking beer and playing dominoes with her friends.

“He was here and he was so happy,” said friend and bodega regular Johnny Rivera, 60. He celebrated and bought a case of beer for everyone. Whatever you put on the counter, he paid.

After tossing ten-dollar bills at her buddies, Laura headed home.

According to Rivera, the victim and his roommate “had an argument.”

“It went on — it didn’t start yesterday,” he added. “They were once friends.

Miranda was charged with murder and manslaughter around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday after several hours of interrogation.

“We didn’t think for a minute that it would lead to this,” Rivera said. “We are all in shock.”

Laura has two adult children who live in the Dominican Republic. He worked as a loader in a neighboring house.

“Tomorrow is never promised,” Rivera said.

On Thursday, Miranda was awaiting arraignment in the Bronx Criminal Court.
